For people who provide education about trans issues, lives and experiences, Transgender Week of Awareness can be a busy time. Many of our health and social service organisations in Aotearoa have gaps in their knowledge and skills around working respectfully with trans people, and this time of year can highlight that need.
At the same time, making real change takes more than a week. We want to talk about how we can move past awareness to action, and make sure there’s the same commitment and interest in trans inclusion all year round. How can organisations build mutually beneficial relationships that avoid tokenising trans knowledge, and develop long-term ways of learning that move beyond a single lunchtime talk? How can we make sure trans educators are well supported to lead this work?
This webinar was a discussion about how we can make real change within health and social service organisations, recognise the expertise of trans educators and support rainbow champions to change their workplaces.
